Jana Siksha Andolon — eradication of superstition & spread of education
Under Societies Registration Act
Bijnan Mancha, Tripura is a Member Organization of the All India People's Science Network (AIPSN). Though it took its present shape on 02.02.2020 through a State Level Convention of PSM (Peoples' Science Movement) activists of Tripura, it claims its legacy of Jana Siksha Andolon — a movement for the eradication of superstition, misbeliefs, and the spread of education in Tripura in 1940s.
Founding Legacy
Among its founder members, a number of activists had played a vital role in organizing the All India People's Science March in 1987, a milestone in the Science Movement in India popularly known as the 'Jana Vigyan Jatha, 1987', and in the formation of the national network called the All India People's Science Network (AIPSN) in 1988. They also played a vital role in organizing the 'Bharat Gyan Vigyan Jatha, 1990' and the formation of Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samity.
Network & Linkages
Bijnan Mancha, Tripura maintains active linkages with numerous organisations including Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samity, Janswastya Abhijan, and fellow Member Organizations of AIPSN such as the Delhi Science Forum, CTD, KSSP, Paschim Banga Vigyan Mancha, among others.
Role in Education Movement
The organisation has played a vital role in the formation of the Joint Forum for Movement on Education (JFME) – Tripura, strengthening the struggle for equitable and scientific education across the state.
Objectives
To encourage scientific literacy and rational inquiry among the masses, fostering resistance to superstition, pseudoscience, misinformation, and unfounded beliefs.
To nurture a spirit of questioning and scientific inquiry, especially among young people.
To enhance public understanding of science and its societal implications by:
Inculcating evidence-based decision-making and rational judgment.
Promoting health, sanitation, and quality of life through scientific awareness.
Advancing environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
Empowering citizens to critically engage with the application of science and technology and to oppose their misuse against societal and ecological interests.
To strengthen the social responsibility of scientists and technologists by encouraging the ethical, equitable, and people-centric application of science and technology for the public good.
To promote people-centric technologies, grassroots innovation, ethical entrepreneurship, free and open-source software, and participatory planning for inclusive and sustainable development.

To organize the masses against the creeping shadows of pseudo-science and obscurantism. We believe that science is a tool for liberation, not just a subject for the elite. Our mission is to democratize the laboratory.
